In a developing country like Pakistan, mental health is a concerning issue. Pakistan is one of the countries with the highest mental illness rates in the world. According to research, Pakistan has less than 500 psychiatrists for a population of more than 200 million people. Due to this reason, most mental health patients are left untreated. Women are most affected by psychiatric illnesses. Depression and anxiety are common disorders noted. Awareness regarding mental health issues is improving among the general population but the stigma is still there. Find below expert Mental Health Advice, dealing with Stress and Anxiety:

The suffering of a Mental Health Patient:

The onset of any mental health illness is insidious but it is one of the most painful episodes of one’s life. The trouble starts when it becomes difficult to perform daily tasks of life. It even becomes difficult to do small chores and lack of interest makes this condition vulnerable. Concentration is constantly being diverted and frustration increases with time. It feels like nothing is improving as the condition continues to deteriorate. It seems impossible to find a way forward. In this time of dismay, persons who are part of your life can help overcome this challenge. They help to gain strength and courage to face the illness.

Mental Health Vs. Emotional Health:

Emotional health is very important for the well-being of a person. Being emotionally healthy means you can control your emotion and you know how to respond to different situations. Bad mental health is responsible for negative emotions and feelings of hopelessness, fear, anger, and helplessness.

Are Mental and Physical Health Related?

Mental and physical health are closely related. Good mental health improves your physical health. On the contrary, bad mental health has a negative impact on your physical health. Most chronic illnesses such as diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease, arthritis, asthma, etc. are linked to mental health. According to research, people with mental illness are more prone to have physical health conditions such as heart disease. So, it is essential to consider mental health as important as your physical health. The body’s hormones and chemicals such as cortisol and endorphins are produced according to the interpretation of our experiences. So, your physical health is linked to mental health.

How to take care of your mental health?

Self-care is very important for your treatment and recovery if you are suffering from mental illness. It includes doing things that uplift your mood, make you happy and improve your overall mental and physical well-being. Try the tips mentioned below to get yourself back on track:

Get regular exercise

Stay positive

Eat healthy and stay hydrated

Value yourself

Surround yourself with good people

Set goals and priorities

Do activities that you enjoy

Rest

Seek professional help

One exercise that significantly improves your mood and mental health is yoga. Yoga lowers stress hormones in your body and helps you to cope with stress and depression. Brain chemicals such as endorphin and GABA are elevated which uplifts your mood.

Most people with mental illness remain untreated due to fear of being considered insane or different. Stigma, prejudice, and discrimination are faced by those affected by different mental health conditions. The key to overcoming these issues is not believing other people’s ignorance. Do not isolate yourself and let stigma create self-doubt and shame.

“Mental health and mental illness impact nearly every family, yet stigma still causes so much shame, fear, doubt, isolation, and misunderstanding,” says Dave Eldredge, HMHI. “The shame caused by stigma keeps people from seeking treatment so richly needed and deserved.”

Dave Eldredge, MSW, LCSW, Senior Director of Clinical Operations at HMHI

After the delta variant of COVID-19, Omicron emerged in the late November previous year. Infections of Omicron variant are still spreading around the world. This variant is milder than the delta variant but it is more contagious and transmissible i.e. it spreads more quickly. Anyone who is infected with Omicron can pass the virus to others despite not having the symptoms or being vaccinated. The difference between delta and omicron is that the omicron has killed a smaller proportion of people. But WHO has warned the concerned authorities as it is still hospitalizing the people and is more contagious.

According to different studies, the most common symptoms of omicron are runny nose, headache, sneezing, cough, and sore throat. Body aches and fatigue have also been reported. The point of concern is that the symptoms of Omicron previously mentioned look like common cold and people are unaware that they are having Omicron. Loss of sense of smell and fever have been reported less in most of the cases of the Omicron variant. Symptoms are also varying among people due to the status of vaccination and age. Vaccinated people are having less severe symptoms. Omicron variant symptoms are not aligning with the classic three symptoms of COVID. (Fever, Cough, and loss of sense of smell or taste). So people should be aware of common symptoms of Omicron that look like the common cold. According to the ZOE COVID Study app prevalence of Omicron symptoms is as follows:

Anyone who is having symptoms of common cold should isolate and get themselves tested to confirm. Other than this everyone should follow the most important SOPs of wearing masks and maintaining social distance as prevention is always better than cure!

COVID-19 pandemic caused by SARS-coV-2 has affected millions of people worldwide. There has been a dire need for COVID-19 Vaccine and the good news is coming regarding COVID-19 vaccine as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has released a detailed analysis on Tuesday that the COVID-19 vaccine from Pfizer and its partner BioNTech is safe and effective. The most common side effect or symptom experienced by people who received the vaccine was pain, redness, or swelling at the injection site (generally the arm). That was followed by short-term fatigue, headache, and muscle pain. Serious reactions were rare.

Pfizer COVID Vaccine

This announcement was ahead of a Thursday meeting of whether to grant the vaccine an emergency use authorization (EUA) or not. Earlier On Dec 2, 2020 Medicines & Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in the U.K. has granted a temporary authorization for the emergency use of the COVID-19 mRNA vaccine, against COVID-19. Pregnant women and under-16s were not included in the studied, and so the vaccine will not yet be approved for these groups.

BioNTech partnered with Pfizer

In March 2020, the German company BioNTech partnered with Pfizer to develop and test a coronavirus vaccine known as BNT162b2. The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine requires two injections, given 21 days apart, to prime the immune system well enough to fight off the coronavirus. As Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine is mRNA vaccine, it generates proteins in the living cells which are the spike proteins and are sensitive to immune cells and the body to develop immunity. As the vaccine is new, researchers don’t know how long its protection might last.

According to The New York Times, in January 2020 BioNTech begins work on a vaccine after Dr. Ugur Sahin, one of the company’s founders, becomes convinced that the coronavirus will spread from China into a pandemic. Preliminary data indicates the Pfizer vaccine is over 90 percent effective, with no serious side effects. Final data from the trial shows the efficacy rate is 95 percent. Margaret Keenan and William Shakespeare are among the first people to receive jabs of the vaccine in Britain. According to BBC Ms. Keenan said

“My aidvce to anyone offered the vaccine is to take it. If I can have it at 90, then you can have it too!”

This is great news and development in the healthcare industry and hopefully, Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine will end this pandemic in near future!

According to WHO, Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV). On 11 February 2020 the WHO gave the disease caused by the new coronavirus an official name: COVID-19, short for coronavirus disease 2019. It is recognized as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) on 11 March 2020.

Origin of Coronavirus:

“A 55-year-old individual from Hubei province in China may have been the first person to have contracted COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus spreading across the globe. That case dates back to Nov. 17, 2019, according to the South Morning China Post.”

According to Live Science.

Cases in Wuhan were reported month after this case. As there are many rumors on social media that the virus is transmitted to humans through the bat soup in Wuhan due to video that went viral showing a young woman tucking into bat meat soup in a restaurant at Wuhan. Later it was known that video is not of Wuhan Restaurant where the soup was served. Now it is clear that some infected people had no connection to the market. Scientists now suspect that coronavirus is originated in a bat and somehow transferred to another animal, possibly the pangolin, which then passed it on to humans.
<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display: block; text-align: center;" data-ad-layout="in-article" data-ad-format="fluid" data-ad-client="ca-pub-7829197875019107" data-ad-slot="9940304438"></ins>

How it can be transmitted?

Coronavirus can be transmitted through sneeze or cough droplets, when you come into close contact with someone who has the Virus and is coughing or sneezing.

By touching surfaces that someone who has the virus has coughed or sneezed on as this is heavy virus by mass and so rely more on any surface than in air.

The virus can only survive a few hours if someone who has it coughs or sneezes on a surface. So practicing good hygiene can prevent it.

What are the symptoms of Coronavirus?

People may experience following symptoms:

Runny nose

Sore throat

Cough

Fever

Good

sleep is unbelievably very beneficial for your health. It is as essential as eating healthy food. Sleep makes you feel better and gets recovered from fatigue and exhaustiveness. Its significance goes beyond just improving your mood and eradicating under-eye circles. Studies show that getting quality sleep on daily basis solves most of the problems of your life from blood pressure to weight control and many more and contributes to a healthier life overall. The benefits of good sleep should never be underrated. Lying on your bed but you can’t sleep is the worst thing faced by most people. It’s a very common problem, which physicians help the peoples to be solved. While you are not falling asleep you think about the next day that how you will awake on time? Could I be doing work without feeling groggy? I will be having a headache! All these things create stress by producing stress hormones which slacken the sleeping further. Here are 15 tips that will help and assist you with tips on how to fall asleep fast:

1. Follow your sleep routine:

A consistent sleeping and wake-up time trains your body to get good sleep. Going to bed at different times is followed by most of the people that disturb all the schedule of sleep and is one of the most significant reasons that you can’t sleep quickly. Irregular sleeping pattern disturbs the body’s circadian rhythm (24-hour cycle in the physiological processes of living beings). You should create a proper timetable for your sleep and stick to it consistently.

2. Calm yourself:

Exclude worries from your mind and relax. As you lie in bed relax your body completely. Relax your legs, belly, your hands, your arms, and so forth. A quiet mind is essential for you to sleep so relax your mind too.

3. Keep the lights turned off:

When you turn off the lights, the absence of light sends signals to your mind that now it is sleeping time.

4. Only use your bed for sleep:

Why only your bed? Your bed is one of your favorite inanimate objects were after the exasperating work you love to sleep. According to time.com:

“In a small new study published in Current Biology, researchers from Brown University found out what goes on in the brain when a person sleeps in an unfamiliar place. They measured brain activity during the deep sleep of 35 young, healthy people. The researchers found evidence that something unique indeed goes on in the brain during the first night: one hemisphere of the brain, the left, shows wakefulness while the other shows sleep. ”

So your own bed is the best place to sleep!

5. Avoid naps:

You take naps during the daytime when you want to take some rest and to keep your mind active and fresh for the next task. You should take them but not longer than 2 hours in the evening as they will disturb circadian rhythm and at night time you will not be able to sleep fast so focus on this also!

6. Avoid taking caffeine:

According to https://qz.com:

“When we wake up in the morning, a chemical, adenosine, builds up in
our brain to create sleep pressure and make us feel sleepier the longer
we stay awake. After about 16 hours of staying awake, the sleep
pressure created by adenosine causes us to feel tired enough to fall
asleep. But, caffeine creates the opposite effect.”

So avoid taking caffeine after the evening if you want to sleep quickly!

7. Don’t exercise before sleep:

Avoid things that keep you awake. Doing exercise late at night prevent you from sleeping. Using the gym too late at night can increase adrenaline levels and make you feel more alert.

8. The room should be free from disturbances:

When you are going to sleep make sure that the bedroom is free from any type of noise. Noise basically disturbs your mind and deviates your attention from sleeping and engage your mind in activity going around. So should be sure that your room should be free from distractions!

9. Change eating habits:

The food person eats in the evening has an impact on sleep. Taking a heavy meal before sleep disrupts the sleeping ability as food approximately takes 2-3 hours to digest. So avoid heavy meals before sleeping!

10. Invest in Comfy Bedding:

A quality mattress that suits your sleeping style is also essential for comfortable sleep along with good stuff pillows and bed linen. So these can also make you fall asleep quickly.

11. Selecting the comfortable position:

A comfortable position for sleeping is the key factor for sleeping quickly. Everybody has his own sleeping position according to his own liking. If you find difficulty in selecting the best position for you to sleep, try all and choose the one you are comfortable with. Good sleeping position will prevent you from rolling on your bed which hampers the sleeping process.

12. Avoid watching something before sleep:

“You’re stimulating the wake centers with the blue light from your
electronics,” Dr. Rosen says.

Exposure to this specific wavelength disrupts the normal sleep-wake cycle. Put down tablets, TVs, and phones at least 30 minutes before bedtime to minimize the effects, the American Academy for Sleep Medicine (AASM) advises.

13. Shower at night:

Taking shower before sleep can relax your body and prepares you for sleep.

14. Drink some milk:

“Milk contains the protein α-lactalbumin. This protein contains high amounts of the amino acid tryptophan, which produces melatonin, the hormone that induces sleep,” says Dr. Winter.

Studies show that a diet rich in tryptophan including egg whites etc. can help boost sleep.

15. Sleep in Cooler Temperature:

Studies show that colder temps are good for sleep. This helps in lowering body internal temperature and promotes sleep.
