Similar to SWVL, Careem has followed suit. SWVL is a Cairo based mobile application based on the bus transit system. It was developed by three enthusiastic developers who sought to resolve the issue of everyday conveyance for the people. Thanks to SWVL! Public transport has become 70% cheaper than travelling via personal car or taxis. SWVL also expressed their plans to expand in Pakistan by 2023. However, Careem, seeing the potential has already launched their first-ever bus service in Karachi.

Careem Bus has been launched in Karachi

The Careem Bus service application is available on both android and iOS. All you have to do is download the app and sign up for the service. Once done you can easily enter your destination and select the nearest route for your convenience. However, for now, the bus service covers only 10 routes available at 10 am that too only on weekdays. Good news is, you can book the service in 1 rupee as well!

Unlike SWVL, Careem Bus basically operates using eight-seater minivan. Previously, available to book using the Careem Go-mini category. We believe there are plans to expand the operations to a full-seater bus. Which will help students looking to opt for a cheaper conveyance. Careem Bus operates in three other countries as well. Including Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Jordan. Pakistan is the fourth country where the service has been made available. Unfortunately, the service has shut down in Jordan.

Hopefully, this service picks up in Pakistan! There is a need to operationalize public transport and extend services all over the country.
